Definition of an IYNAUS certified teacher IYNAUS defines an Iyengar Yoga Teacher as someone who:
- Teaches in the method set forth by Shri B.K.S. Iyengar, without mixing in other styles of yoga or other disciplines.
- Receives continuing instruction from the RIMYI in Pune, India, or from an Intermediate or Advanced Iyengar teacher or teachers.
- Acknowledges the governing influence of the teaching of Shri B.K.S. Iyengar on his or her practice and teaching of yoga.
- Maintains a regular personal practice.
- Is mindful of IYNAUS Ethical Guidelines.
- Maintains his or her fees: membership in IYNAUS, certification fees and certification mark fees.
Teachers certified by IYNAUS are educated and experienced in the methods of yoga set forth by Shri B.K.S. Iyengar, known to his students as Guruji. They have passed a rigorous standardized assessment and maintain ongoing training, practice, and commitment to the Iyengar method. Teachers passing assessment must meet standards in three categories: a demonstrated practice of asanas, a written exam, and demonstrated teaching skills in order to be granted a certification credential.

The Certification Mark
The Certification Mark is used exclusively by certified teachers throughout the world as an international symbol of the highest standards of excellence in training and continuing education in the Iyengar method.
